Butterfly Safety
Butterfly farmers and butterfly breeders are very concerned for the butterflies they ship for your butterfly release. Next to raising healthy butterflies for your butterfly release, their concern is for your butterflies to arrive safe and sound into your hands.
“Your butterflies will be shipped safely in their car seats, ‘special envelopes’ that keep them safe from the thumps and bumps of travel. Shipping them loose in a box is like letting children travel in a car without seat belts or a car seat; it’s dangerous for them.
Their wings will be closed behind their backs, the position that they automatically take when they rest in nature. If we keep their wings open in their car seats, it’s like our children being required to hold their arms in the air the entire time they’re in a car seat. It is not natural for them. It becomes tiring. Their instinct is to close their wings when at rest.
They’ll be shipped in a box with ice packs to mimic nature’s spring or fall nights. Cool, dark, in a resting position … they’re snug, safe, and basically ‘asleep’ for the trip.”
