First National Butterfly Awareness Day, June 6, 2009
THE ASSOCIATION FOR BUTTERFLIES ANNOUNCES THE FIRST
NATIONAL BUTTERFLY AWARENESS DAY
The Association For Butterflies is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of butterflies through conservation, research, and promotion of butterfly gardening and butterfly farmers.
To make the public more aware of butterflies and their importance as pollinators and their place in nature, the AFB announces June 6, 2009 as National Butterfly Awareness Day. The AFB believes that by the creation of a national day to help raise peoples' awareness of butterflies, this insect will benefit as well as humanity.
Several activities are planned, including scheduling butterfly releases by the public to celebrate the inaugural day, encouraging the planting of butterfly gardens in yards, parks, and public areas, and promotion of butterfly-related education.
The AFB is sponsoring a contest for our members to design a logo for National Butterfly Awareness Day. If you have some artistic talent, please submit your ideas to the Directors of the AFB by April 24, 2009. All entries will be considered. The winner will receive a butterfly book, Lifecycles of Butterflies by Wayne Richards and Judy Burris, a brother and sister team. The logo will be used to help promote National Butterfly Awareness Day.
