Butterflies use “Host” and “Nectar” plants.  A butterfly host plant is the plant that the butterfly will lay its egg on for the caterpillar to hatch out and eat.  Each butterfly has it own particular host plant.  Some butterflies only have a few host plants, other butterflies have many host plants.  If you want butterflies to visit your butterfly garden, you will need butterfly host plants.
