Girl Scouts Butterfly Conservation Project
Linda Marchman has been in contact with Girl Scout representatives and leaders in Virginia.
The project that was approved was to institute a pilot program of troops planting butterfly gardens for conservation purposes. It will be "field-tested" in Charlottesville, Virginia. After the curriculum is written, it will be passed along to the Regional office to be approved. The troops will then work towards a patch or badge that they can design.
This project will benefit all involved...the girls will gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for butterflies and their lifecycle, the butterflies will have more gardens in which to nectar and spend time and the AFB will be involved in one of its primary goals of the conservation of (what else?) butterflies!
A portion of AFB funds earmarked for 2007/08 conservation will be used for this project.
